Arlo Mountford reminds us that theorizing in times of crisis is often mere pageantry. Calls for a return to the simple way of life and to community values to stave off depression sound appealing, but we cannot ignore the last hundred years and the development of a western world who simply shrug their shoulders when things go wrong.
