The painting conveys the story places of Dibirdibi, the rock cod ancestors, and charts his creative journey along the Bentinck island coastline. These are the lands that belonged to Sally Gabori’s late husband, Pat (whose traditional name is also Dibirdibi). The memory of Pat moved Gabori to depict their shared country with a radiating sense of vitality… This work is a celebration of the artist’s husband and their joint inheritance — through reaffirming their intimate connection to their lands, this work is also a work of love.
