BMX riders, skateboarders, breakdancers, capoeiristas and dirt bikers appear throughout Shaun Gladwell’s practice, refrained in a way antithetical to the usually fast-paced, frenetically edited content of MTV-style television shows. Renouncing distracted entertainment, Gladwell’s protracted slow motion shots combine with moments of stasis to encourage a contemplation not often associated with the activities he represents.
