Describing Olaf Breuning’s work is something of a fool’s errand. Inevitably one is reduced to paltry terms such as “eclectic” or “wide ranging,” and most attempts to get below the surface of it are met with the feints and parries of an aesthetic sensibility that is ever directing one back out at the world with all of its humour and absurdity… For Breuning, it is not art as life, nor art into life, nor even life as art, but rather perhaps the more simple and direct equation: art = life.
