Behind-the-scenes: Leandro Erlich ‘Swimming pool’ 2008

Leandro Erlich is known for installations that seem to defy the laws of physics and confuse the viewer, who is introduced into jarring environments that momentarily threaten a sense of balance or space. In Swimming pool 2008, Erlich recreates a typical swimming pool and removes its functionality. Viewers look down into the pool and witness a trompe l’oeil effect in which they see what appear to be people submerged beneath the water. In reality, the people below have entered the empty pool basin through a side door.
