Installation view and exhibition test panel: Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane | Photography by Natasha Harth
The installation of Latifa Echakhch’s À chaque stencil une révolution (For each stencil a revolution) 2007 is nearing completion. In this instructional piece for a single gallery wall, the entire surface is covered in carbon paper with methylated spirits poured down its dark blue surface. The process creates unique variations in the shade and texture of the paper surface and causes traces of pigment to collect in pools of the solvent across the gallery floor.
